BOAT OF

  14 February 1981

Cobb Institute Athens, GA

(David Gamble, Mike Green, Carol Levy, Tom Smith, Craig Woodall)

A Valentine's Day fete; unfortunately unrecorded. Spontaneous performance - no flier.

  16 May 1981

  40-Watt Club

Athens, GA

(Mike Green, Carol Levy, Tom Smith)

The very first Boat Of flier...

The flier was detourned from a photo found in a 1980 issue of Hustler's Rejects. I wrote the shorthand "BO 40W T" with one of Carol Levy's mascara pencils; the color photocopies were made at the University of Georgia library, where Mike Green was employed. Local Pylon enthusiasts ripped 'em down overnight. From the 16 May 1981 show at the 40-Watt, all performances were recorded.

 11 June 1981

  Tyrone's O.C.

  Athens, GA

(Mike Green, Carol Levy, Tom Smith, Michael Stipe)

The Side Effects' Paul Bouchard (who later went to a Federal prison on absurdly trumped-up drug charges) recorded the gig on the 40-Watt's eight-track. Probably the best live sound we ever got...
